The Big Boy Bed

In anticipation of baby #3 - and because my extra long Tigger was rapidly outgrowing and getting less comfortable in the pack'n'play - we moved Tadpole to a BIG BOY BED a few weeks ago.

Of course I had been anticipating a rough transition, less because of his new bed, but mostly because giving ANYTHING (in this case, his crib) to Tigger is usually met with disaster for my ever-so-independent and routine-minded two year old.

I bought special matching airplane sheets, duvet, and pajamas, hoping that this would thrill the kiddo beyond belief. It certainly helped! Tadpole has been endlessly proud to show off his airplanes and big boy bed, even requesting to nap more frequently and nap in his adorable airplane pajamas.

And wouldn't you know, the little man has made a rather smooth transition, not appearing to get out of his bed, run around or escape their room, or bug his brother!

We have had a few...er... strange moments. The first was when Hubby responded to a fussing Tigger on Night #2 of the new bed scheme. After calming Tigger, he crept across the dark room to Tadpole's bedside to be sure he was ok. Upon feeling the fluffy bed for a moment, however, he realized that Tadpole was NOT in it. He flicked on the hall light and glanced around the room, but there was no Tadpole in sight. Panicked, Hubby called out his name and heard a teeny, weeny voice reply "daddy?" only to discover a totally zonked Tadpole lying behind the rocking chair next to the window.

On a bit lighter of a note, about a week later I groggily stumbled upstairs to replace a binky in Tigger's mouth. As I leaned over the crib, I stepped on something - somebody! - and nearly flipped out. My sweet Tadpole had fallen fast asleep lying parallel to Tigger's crib.

I'd like to think this happened because he wanted to be as close as possible to his brother and that it had nothing to do with feeling lost and lonely in his new big boy bed...
